When did we stop tolerating divergence of thought?

When I first saw the story of the Wagner Group approaching Moscow, I felt dazed in a way I haven’t felt since I saw smoke coming from the twin towers on 9/11. My head was spinning and the lack of clear information combined with a needless stream of speculation didn’t help.
