"We’ve been fighting for a long time and the working class never moves forward, not really…"
There are several reasons for that. Depending on how you define working class, the brighter ones end up in the middle class, the state school system is designed to educate people to remain where they are and not learn how to break out, many just want instant gratification, many are so preoccupied with just getting by, brain washing through crap TV; soaps, celebrities and football elevated above a sport and it's bloody hard to fight the shit when you have no money and are dependent.
Why everything has become so bad is with the ascendence of alternative media on the Internet the "working" class was starting to make its own political decisions. I think the elite that run things got scared they might lose control. So now they aim to remove even the pretence of democracy.
However, war with nuclear arms can go horribly wrong for all as can AI replacing people. Those that think they can fully control a complex system could destroy everything through their misplaced self-confidence and hubris. Not to mention messing with viruses.
Ricky, (We) "the People" (Humanity Globally) WILL Win "their" Evil Class War!

"Social murder is a term coined by Friedrich Engels in 1845 in one of his seminal works, 'The Conditions of the Working Class in England'.
“When one individual inflicts bodily injury upon another such that death results, we call the deed manslaughter; when the assailant knew in advance that the injury would be fatal, we call his deed murder. But when society places hundreds of proletarians in such a position that they inevitably meet a too early and an unnatural death, one which is quite as much a death by violence as that by the sword or bullet; when it deprives thousands of the necessaries of life, places them under conditions in which they cannot live – forces them, through the strong arm of the law, to remain in such conditions until that death ensues which is the inevitable consequence – knows that these thousands of victims must perish, and yet permits these conditions to remain, its deed is murder just as surely as the deed of the single individual; disguised, malicious murder, murder against which none can defend himself, which does not seem what it is, because no man sees the murderer, because the death of the victim seems a natural one, since the offence is more one of omission than of commission. But murder it remains.” Engels used the term social murder to describe how living and working conditions of English workers caused their premature death. Engels argued that since those responsible for these conditions – the ruling class or the bourgeoisie – were aware of the conditions that caused premature death, they were therefore committing social murder."

Yeah, the capitalists aren't covering their tracks anymore. They figure we the workers are powerless to change anything, and they're going to get their way no matter how much we have to suffer. It's about time we flipped the table on that scenario, isn't it?
Very well written, and sadly, true. I do myself consider not a left-winger (rather the opposite), yet i can say yes to everything the author says. Which brings me to the core of the problem: The "left wing / right wing" thing is just another tool of our Overlords to keep us under control. Divide et impera, divie and conquer. What is even more shocking that those figures like Ursula and Klaus are so terribly mediocre (at the best), and this seems to be enough to keep the yoke on us, the people...
Even if democratization by and for the masses fails there is one hope - the more complex a system becomes the more it is prone to catastrophic failure.
Let's face facts; all these total control efforts come at a very high cost both socially and economically. So far not a single society in human history survived the fast social complexity similar power grabs required.
What we see is that in the end game all resources of a civilization are wasted on maintaining the status quo, leaving no reserves to deal with the calamities once the inevitable systemic crisis hits - and then the whole carefully constructed house of cards comes tumbling down.
Looking at the bigger picture I think that we are close to that point today.
The planet is big. For example, there are more people working in factories than there ever were. You’re not wrong but only about the west. There’s an enormous working class world wide and it’s only just beginning to fight.
Not in its origin, no, and they matter more than ever now. Do you have anything constructive to say, or are you competing in the purity olympics? I’m not interested in that.
Do you have anything to say about my comment that the working class is bigger and more powerful than it ever was if we take a less parochial view from the arse end of a decaying empire? So those of us that live in the global north need not despair? Or are you being an armchair thought police officer?
How is drive by sniping and not engaging with the point I made constructive?
The ruling class has enslaved humanity for millennia. This is nothing new. Humans consciously and unconditionally have given their power away to these criminals. It’s time for a new awakening and final liberation from these heathens.
Great read - glad I stumbled upon your platform. You make many good points, and I actually just mentioned the Australian CEO in my last post. Sadly, he is just one of many CEOs calling their workers lazy dogs. Would love it if you gave me a read!
Sadly you are right. History has repeatedly shown since the days of the Roman Empire that ordinary people only get freedom, rights, liberties and a say on matters if one of the ruling "elites" decides to take their side. Usually as an part of a power play on their own behalf. I believe that the last time ordinary people had a real say in their own governance was during the iron age.
Many thanks for articulating these realities. The situation is ugly here in the USA, also, because (like the ancient Romans) the ruling classes have learned the art of "divide and conquer." Thus, people are far more worried about reproductive choice or the possibility that whites will become a minority in "their" country than they are about the way more and more wealth has "trickled up" to the richest people. The ReThuglicans have also ignited the fires of blatant racism, another divisive card. Worse still, while thumping the Constitution as vigorously as they thump the Bible, they want to abolish freedom of the press; hence, the massive efforts at censorship. As for history, the USA learned NOTHING WHATSOEVER from one mistake after another; people are taught nothing about CIA-sponsored coups all over the globe (for the benefit of the wealthy!) and are equally ignorant of the horrible racist history of this country. Shameful!
I believe the party of Eisenhower was quite different than the party of Nixon (1968), and things spiraled downward from that point on. Of course, Harding, Coolidge, Hoover, et al. were hardly "bargains," and McKinley was...Well, let's not even open that can of worms!
Of course, that term might work, also. However, the GOP are by far the ones more active with censorship, racism, and (thanks to the quasi-Hitlerian ideology now embraced by so many) creation of "the other" to describe their "enemies." As the masses fight amongst themselves, those in power accumulate yet more of it...
What a great analysis. Perfectly summed the corporate and oligarchs' greed. It's shocking that all the ways they come up with to keep the working class barely existing that too for their service. The sad thing is that the same working class is very uncomfortable to even have similar conversation much less acknowledge the dire situation they/we all are in. All the social/economical issues/problems either manufactured by rich and/or real are to keep the working class struggling so that they won't be able to fight for their rights, and also to keep under their control. The biggest ills are the private equity and the monopoly in ALL areas of businesses especially supplying the consumer needs. The glaring example of solution to their having to share their "wealth" with working class is the manufactured shortages and unsustainable price hikes during, and after the pandemic, not surprisingly to curb the need to hire more workers, and being forced to raise wages, (unnecessarily in oligarchs' thinking).
My only hope is the young/younger generation even though it seems like a herculean problem.
Here we see the Dems showing up to "support" strikers - AOC was one Dem Rep at the writers/screen actors' pocket lines with tough talk but actually is in cahoots with the corrupt Union leader. Very important fact . Dems , like Labour in UK have jettisoned the Left , as in Canada and G7 , and Gawd knows where else . This isn't new . Union corruption is a thing . Ask yourself why Jimmy Hoffa died . Teamsters .
Parties like the Liberals , Democrats , Labour Party are hosting parasites now . If the population would wake up before it's TOO late they'd be voting for a Communist party. Genuine advocacy is perhaps as or more powerful than a party that wins but lies and discards it's Underclasses at every turn . I enjoyed your article , it was informative thank you .

Of COURSE they won’t “win the war” when they ,
AND CLIMATE CHANGE:
OWN the conversation:
It’s going to be an event:
Trapping the rich :
(Who THINK they’ve got it “made”. When they are a the ones BEING MADE);
An 21st Century French Revolution/reign of terror :
to cow them
Remember,
When you have a populace with nothing left to lose??
Then you have an invincible army
(not the other way round).
They will NOT see it coming either
