I’m coming to terms with some of your positions, and challenging my own more. But I think it would help your case, Ricky, to offer us some names or links or dates when using phrases like “they label us”, or “we are told”. Call me pedantic, but it just sounds like ominous paranoia otherwise.

As soon as USA and UK started calling them "freedom fighters" I knew it was a set-up.

Sir

This one of the best summaries if not the best essay on the Syrian "Is-not-real" / western empire sponsored conflict.

Explianing the propaganda campaign and the two very so clever commentators, whom every liberal I know seem to get an erection over the mention of their names.

The fake anti-war movement and fake so called pro Palestian groups like "Stop the War" and the "Palestian Solidarity Campaign" who's silent on the plight of everyday Syrians is absolutely deafening and they love shilling and promoting the guardian they know best with their university education in political science.

Or even worse organisations like 5pillarsuk.com who actually shill for HTS fucking head-chopperd

Never be silent even when I don't agree.

Could you name them please? I genuinely don't know who tf these people are.

One was best mates with Tony Blair and heavily involved in the lie of weapons of mass destruction that resulted in the slaughter of countless innocent Iraqi people and the other is an ex tory MP who it is alleged was an MI6 operative, and BTW these two clowns are a double act

Sorry, I don't follow corporate media. Who are the "high profile commentators" who've got this badly wrong?

After genocides in Africa, South America, USA, Canada, India and Australia and forcibly flogging drugs to China, nuking Japan and destroying the Middle Easr I don't think the West has a lot of moral credibility to critique anyone anywhere especially when it is almost certainly a key mover in any nastiness in the first place.

Sensible position.

A note on terminology: launching a coup and winning a civil war are very much not the same thing, even if they do both involve a change of government.

They are doing what tribal militias do if they get the chance: attacking another tribe (often disinguished by a religious affiliation) with a view to annihilating them. See Rwanda, the Balkans, Libya etc etc. It's the same old story, with geopolitical refinements.

In the end, we allow the gun runners and propaganda purveyors and economic hitmen to flood the world in the name of AmeriKKKan exceptionalism. It's a perverse and homicidal grand cheeseboard game that murders and starves and maims and pollutes the world.

All of these commentators applying this or that white Anglo and Jewish rationalization are scum. They don't count their easychair words in actual children's lives .

The Judaic and Christian philosophy of dominance and supremacy infects the so called left and right.

Millions have been evicerated and millions more will be folded over into imploded cement or charred tents.

The lack of humanity comes from this EuroTrashLandian and AmeriKKKan and Jewish State of Murdering Maiming Starving Occuping Palestine hubris and purely authoritarian bent that pillages the world, the underclass, while the bloggers and writers captured by their self importance never put the lives and murders of the victims high up in their rhetorical masturbatory explications.

The destroyers of earth hold the tech weapons and economic bombs to feed their armies of greed and perversity.

Rapist Trump's Minyan and Goyim Goons are just the newest bad Sheriff and deputies on the block.

This was a well presented and written article that deserves a sensible response. On the wider historical context the Asad dictatorships (father and son) were vile from their inception in 1970 and were never friends of the Palestinian revolution. Indeed, Hafiz Asad staged his coup in 1970 after he undermined Jadid's support for the Black September uprising and showed precisely where he stood on the matter at Tel al Zaatar, North East Beirut, in 1974. There is no doubt that having resolved to crush the Arab Spring not just in Syria but throughout Arabia, Bashir Asad gassed his own people and committed several atrocities, increasingly with the support of Putin and Iran. In 2012, in contrast to Iraq in 2003, democratic forces on the ground were ASKING the West to support them and I would have supported a limited military intervention in support of that insurrection at that time. The situation, in short, was more akin to Bosnia in 1995 than Iraq in 2003 and people who speak of "the so called Arab Spring" need to stop watching Russia Today.

Bottom line, the Asad regime were pure scum just as Putin poses an existential threat to Europe, both militarily and as an enabler of the new fascists who include Trump, Musk and Co. Nor did Putin need the excuse of NATO expansion to invade Ukraine.

However, the former al Qaeda affiliates who overthrew Bashir Asad did NOT represent a continuation of the Arab Spring and, in fact, the fundamentalists only came to the fore after the Arab Spring was defeated. They are precisely what they appear to be and the West's support for these sectarian maniacs is scandalous. To read what little coverage there now is of Syrian events you'd think that all that matters is that the new regime WON'T attack Israel or do business with Iran. The fact they are opening up their public sector and much of the state to be plundered by Imperialists, much as in Iraq and Libya, is no more covered than the genocide which Erdogan escalated against the Kurds east of the Euphrates the moment that the new regime was swept to power. Now the net of repression is being extended to the indiscriminate slaughter of Alouites in Lakatia but you will hear next to nothing about this.

Assad was a bad one absolutely no doubt about it. What has replaced him is worse. A lot worse. The western worlds hypocrisy is there for all to see. Jolani, or whatever the hell he's called this week, is a terrorist. I know this because the powers that be and their media mouthpieces have told me this. Now he is 'reformed'. Tell that to the Druze, Shia, Christians and Alawites he is massacring at the minute. " Oh don't worry he is a changed man". He is their man. Doing their bidding. Just don't expect western media to tell the truth that this is bloodletting on a grand scale.

What and how do you know that "Assad was a bad one absolutely no doubt about it. " .... have you been and worked in Syria ?; because I HAVE.

I met locals from all religions, races, colours etc over there - who lived together in peace and harmony AND NOT ONE had a bad word to say about the Country or Assad - NOT ONE EVEN IN PRIVATE. They were a secular state and whilst I was working over Christmas, came back to Damascus just after - Christmas trees still lit up, bars and restaurants open ... with a full mix of people with "different backgrounds etc"... ie the Muslims respected Christmas, the Christians respected things like Ramadan - that sought of thing.

You lot can downtick me all you want, but I think Ricky ON THIS POST only tells half the truth, due to his ignorance of Assad and what this crap was all about... but hey ho = just my view and no offence.

PS WHAT CHANGED ?

"The HTS coup was supported by neoliberals who have taken the role of overthrowing any leader they don’t like and installing puppets. "

It can be traced back to T E £awrence's support for tribal warriors to crack open the Ottoman confederations with French collaboration, as the Sykes-Picot cartographers drew their lines in the sands, not least of the Arabian insta££ation of the Wahhabi fundamenta£i$ts.

The Sauds established their madrassas to metastatise the psychosis into its schismatic branches used by the monocu£ar 'w€$t' to crack open their world-wide oysters of g£oba£i$€d and financia£i$€d resources now devouring the very ecosphere in its organised rapacity.

The West (US) were for sure behind the overthrow of Assad. We know the modus operandi of the US. There’s a huge amount of oil and gas deposits in Syria. I have inside sources in Syria that have given me so much information since 2012. Israel and the US want to sew up the whole Mediterranean bag and the world’s letting them do it.
