A brilliantly argued and moving letter. I concur with every word. Starmer’s regime is an appalling perversion of the democratic socialist ideals of Labour. After a lifetime of support and membership, I left Labour in disgust. Like a multitude of others of my ilk I am now in political limbo awaiting the emergence of a party I can campaign and vote for.
Absolutely brilliant, well written which highlights all that has happened over the last few decades. Facts that when reading brought back thoughts and memories of the hardship and struggles so many people have had under these self serving politicians. I agree the Labour party actually sabotaged Jeremy and his campaign in the election, a leader who would have brought moral and ethical standards to politics. We missed our chance of a great leader. Huge mistake if Starmer pushes Jeremy out.
Absolutely all of the above. Added to which Starmer's continued refusal to stand up for the rights of girls and women and the continuing persecution of Rosie Duffield MP means that I too feel I no longer have a political "home" . It certainly isn't with the labour party. I had hung on to my membership in the vague hope of changing things, but it's too far gone now!
Very well said. It never changes either, it was little different for me in the seventies than you in later years. I certainly don't want Tory lite or Liberal Labour. What happened to the upcoming socialist parties of a few years back? Have they all withered? You need to get your letter spread far and wide and many, many people will recognise themselves and their situations to be similar and maybe think about how to change the future for one that works, I mean really works!
I've joined the greens. Whilst they are far from perfect. After being purged from Labour accused of being racist. Was called a queer *c**t and told to keep my nose out of politics. Starmer is a lite version of Tory policy's and we don't need it...we really need a complete revolution and the button needs to be clicked and a new start
That was beautiful! 🙂❤️ I'm a little older, come from the opposite end of the country (Cornwall) and eventually inherited my mother's house: yet I can echo at least 50% of that! The 90s were a desert for opportunity: & I never gotntgw career in journalism I studied for, for one thing because I never went to a public school! F*** the Tories! Well said, mate!!
Spot on.. We need an alternative to neoliberal capitalism. Voting for centrist Labour only builds up the hard right vote. There are some good Labour MPs, they were emboldened by Corbyn's time as leader. I worry about their futures. I joined the Green Party once Sir Kier took his grip on the party. I remain a socialist.
A from-the-heart and honest portrayal of Labour 23. I left Labour when they took the whip away from Jeremy and expelled him. I have been fortunate enough to meet the man on three separate occasions and he is, by far, the most inspiring man in British politics.
I left Labour after Corbyn allowed antisemitism to fester and only now I am thinking of voting for them again. He was far to weak as a leader and the last election he lost it can’t blame anyone else. This Tory government has been the worst in living history and sadly Labour as opposition have been no better. After I saw the recent speech on Labours five different missions was I actually hopeful again. Corbyn is history and unless we all unite we will yet again lose another election….

The treachery of Starmer could not be spelt out any clearer
Absolutely on point. You have articulated so well what many of us are trying to say in our little tweets.
Has JC seen it? ( and where are the Campaign group?)
Solidarity and peace.
Starmer has turned the Labour party into the Tory party in disguise.
I agree with all of this. I detest Starmer for the direction he's taken. I voted for him. What a fu**ing idiot 😭😭😭

I have little to add to the previous comments except - I wish this was an open letter because you could be writing from me
Perfectly written.
