so true, trump is obnoxious.

Adriana IGV's avatar

Sieging a population, starving them is still an illegal, BARBARIC maneuver, no matter if it's through military control or commercial blackmail.

Philip Martin's avatar

Isn't that illegal ?

Have a few days of outrage in congress and this will fade away. I knew it. Forget about it. That’s ball game.

I don’t think ANYONE in congress wants to see arrests and real prosecution. Why? it would damage our international standing and really hurt their multi-million dollar investments and trust funds. That’s why.

Once again…

I think my country has fallen apart. Americans are dull witted, immoral, selfish, greedy cowards. Even if a person did not know anything about US foreign policy and the capture of the US economy by literally delusional fascist billionaires, that person would only need to see the Epstein files and lack of ANY action by Americans and their “leaders” to conclude that this is a fascist country mostly devoid of morals and intellect.

And The U.S. Empire's starvation campaign against Cuba is just one small blip on the Empire's vast panoramic activity of Global Imperial Subjugation. Thank you, Ricky, for focusing your lens on Cuba's plight.

I can assure you. As someone who lived in South Florida, Cubans are not the most economically viable or a people who assimilate quite well. They refuse to speak English and their standardized test scores are the lowest in the U.S. They don't value education as much as articles like these tend to make us believe. Tourism in South Florida was practically thrown at the Cubans to manage, regulate, and control. The many hotels, bars, and restaurants are all in the employ of Cubans mostly; all they have to do is be nice. Aaaaand. They're not. They're rude. They were given a gold mine industry and they don't know or understand how to refine or polish it. Worst drivers too by the way:

https://www.miaminewtimes.com/news/miami-drivers-ranked-rudest-in-u-s-study-says-40520851/

There were very few Cubans that I connected with. The ones I did connect with, spoke English for one. Secondly, they're were respectful and even a few with good humor. I'm not so much a Trump fan today but I'm also one not to defend Cuba either. Cubans were in Vietnam acting as advisors for the NVA and Vietcong to kill American soldiers don't forget. The Cuban Missile Crisis is another turning point for U.S.-Cuban relations when Cuba allowed missile sites erected by the USSR and as a staging point for a maritime invasion. Well, we got the maritime invasion much later on through the Mariel Boatlifts--when Carter AND Reagan allowed countless Cuban "economic refugees" to flood the U.S. to flee Castro. These economic refugees are the ones who now have the gold mine tourism turnkey, which they arrogantly thought was owed to them. Nothing is imaginary. Cubans also helped install a Marxist government in Angola too.

Maybe I should have wrote this article or at least proof read it for you LOL.

martin's avatar

i'm guessing you also support 'israel's right to defend itself'?

the cubans in florida are the ones that are particularly asking for the starvation sanctions, because they hate anything socialist, communist or marxist. they're your friends.

cubans were in vietnam to advise, but what were americans doing in vietnam?

russian missiles in cuba were a tit for tat for american missiles in turkey. you got the maritime invasion with the bay of pigs fiasco which was before the russian missiles came.

in angola the other side was backed by the apartheid south africa and the (apartheid) us.

Mad American Stacker's avatar

If you can read, my timeline clearly despises Israel.

Cubans are deceivers. Cubans in the police force in South Florida acted like the Cuban secret police.

Sounds like you're a communist jew, a communist, or just a jew. Always defending evil and then playing victim.

Apartheid was a good thing in South Africa. Now look at it. Look at Rhodesia. Oh nevermind. Rhodesia is a failed state that evolved into Africa's right armpit of black Marxist warlords, civil unrest, and shitholery.

martin's avatar

it's possible that you despise israel but still support its 'right to defend itself', maybe because one hates muslims and browner people in general more.

there's different kinds of cubans. many south florida cubans are pretty much the same as you, ideologically, imo.

i do consider myself a communist. i am not a jew. it seems possible that you are a fascist. i would not defend evil (the epstein-class, apartheid, racism, anti-human blockades, ...). zimbabwe was another good attempt from which things could be learned.

Adriana IGV's avatar

I’m sorry but describing Cuba through your limited experiences with the people who FLED the island, to say the least, is contradictory. At this point, Cubans, those who remained in their land, with their culture - i.e. valuing education-, those whom you don't know at all, are facing STARVATION, because of your government’s policy imposition.

No matter the partial revisionism of history one chooses to do, I sincerely hope no human being supports returning to barbarism: the blockade of food, adequate medical treatment, or any other essentials for the survival of other human beings.

Rules based order cannot work like that, stumbling on your feet will inevitably makes you fall.

We must face the fact that the UN is run by worst Secretary General in world’s history.

Following his covID 19 simulation exercise for global medical martial law which has resulted in billions between the sick and the killed by it, and with 62 active armed conflicts worldwide, the UN under mr slime ball lizard guterres has become a tool for the destruction of international law and for the supposed normalization of Genocide.

If the UN is to survive, he must be tried for his part in the covID 19 scamdemic conspiracy and for his incompetence or worst, covering up for a Genocide turned into an Holocaust, and for the lost of infrastructure to him trusted.

Is time to stop playing games with psychopaths and thieves, and to make them face the courts.

If the UN cannot clean itself from the dirt clogging it, or to buried for good.

Perhaps time for the NAM to step in and to free the world from the debt based system of sadomasochistic monsters and eugenist psychopaths

Cuba libre free Palestine.

We went to Cuba a couple of years ago on a person-to-person trip that is legal under current laws. The Cuban people are lovely and very welcoming of US despite the terrible way we have treated them. Obama is a hero to them as he took real steps to normalize relations. The poverty is heartbreaking. Our group took many donations of essential items we can pick up at any Walmart or Target. It broke my heart when pack of six toddler girl panties were dolled out among six families. Things like Aspirin are not available. Trump & the oligarchs should try living there for 2 nights, but they don’t care and I am sure Trump includes Cuba, which prior to the revolution was Las Vegas of the Caribbean, as one of his “sh**-hole countries”. Rubio is and always has been a traitor to his people. As a Floridian, I have learned that many of the Cuban immigrants see themselves as the upper class and those that were left behind as illiterate, unwashed peasants. Why would they want those people in little Havana? It’s a very sad story and of course Trump only looks for ways to make it worse.

No, he doesn't. That's what living in a Communist country is like. My husband came from a Communist Country. He knows how people are treated, if you don't become Communist.

He and his family lost a business, farm, and more. His father died at 50. His business was nationalized 3 times. The Cuban government is Communist. How can they stand to watch their people survive in these conditions.

You are brainwashed. The US has installed and ran literal Neo-NAZI death squad regimes all over Latin America for decades. Compared to any of them, very flawed Cuba under Castro was salvation. The notion that the US elite ever had a policy based on humanitarian or ethnical regard is delusional. The US was perfectly comfortable, with Batista's Franco style Fascism and the American Mafia running Havana. Miami Cubans have been involved in CIA atrocities upon not only their Motherland but upon other Latin American and Caribbean peoples. There is no ethical compass in Hialeah FLA.

Lynn's avatar

Sounds like you only see one side.

LOL! You are engaged in projection. I can easily write a critique of poor domestic management in Cuba during the Castro era. But that is nothing compared to the hundreds of thousands of men, women and children exterminated in the most horrific ways in Guatemala and El Salvador by CIA run death squads.

You must be CIA.

Having bled the island for decades via various economic instruments, the US took severe exception to the idea that Castro would not play ball. We then launched the ill-fated Bay of Pigs invasion and discovered (to our horror) that Castro, unlike Battista and other predecessors, could actually arm the peasants to fight against the fascist invaders. The following year we nearly touched off a nuclear war (cf., "Cuban Missile Crisis").

Ever since, we have resorted to various economic tactics: embargo on this, embargo on that, and now embargo on everything. Trump's threats to those who ignore the embargo are more savage yet by no means the first. At one point, Nixon authorized an enormous wheat sale to the Soviet Union but went ballistic when the UK sold buses to Cuba. A British minister quipped that one can't march an army on an empty stomach, but Castro would look damned silly trying to invade the US with by bus.

Bottom line: Trump is a criminal who will make innocent people suffer, simply because it gives him erotic pleasure to do so!
