Epstein wasn't so much of a Russian asset as a freelance agent that worked with the KGB, Mossad and the CIA, depending on what was going down at the time. Western politicians are freely in open conflict with Russia, which you expect not to be the case if Epstein had handed Russia all the compromising details of who he "entertained". Israel though...
Presumably, someone who brokers information can sell to whomever will pay. It seems entirely possible - indeed, likely - that Epstein was selling information - "spying" , if you like - to both Israel and Russia. And anybody else who would pay him enough (in cash, kind, or kompromat) to make it worth his while.
Although Russia works with Israel when their interests coincide, I wonder if Russia would take the planned obliteration of Iran without violent reaction. When the Iran war starts, more planted bombs will go off (quite a few already have) and the US will carpet bomb everything else, with Israeli forces right with them. The only reaction by Russia quick enough to do any good would be nuclear. Goodbye Tel Aviv. Not saying that would be good, but wondering about possibilities.
These governments always need a scapegoat and Russia is very convenient. Decades of Cold War demonization have been hammered Russia, Russia, Russia into the Western psyche. Russia is the primary scapegoat and China is secondary, for the moment. When the economy comes into sharp focus, the Chinese will supplant the Russian scapegoat. Different goals, different targets, different "goats".

What is still on the table is the future - a future that, absent the destruction of the power of the bourgeoisie, is certain to involve more naked corruption and unpunished depravity of the same sort."

Russia has been so demonized that everything is blamed on that country. Russiagate was BS too.
