It blows my mind that some people actually consider the USA the good guys when it's supporting genocide. Some people still lap this garbage propaganda up.

Ex-Navy person here…. The United States military would have to have competent leadership to pull this off….I hate to say this, truly I do… but this administration will fire all the good leadership, replace them with under qualified, radicalized 2nd rate commanders and put the odds of a horrible and preventable tragedy happening at damn near a sure thing….they will VERY likely get a bunch of our soldiers and sailors killed… and they still won’t prevail.. never underestimate a population that is fighting for their country…. Look at the Russia Ukraine conflict… the tread is showing on Russia’ ass….they aren’t going to prevail… oh and top this off with what CFDJT thinks he’s going to to do to the sleeping giant in his own country…. A global smack-down is coming and long overdue…

The level of delusion packed into these 12 words is off the scale.

Air Force retiree here, and I have to disagree, because a lot of the good officers were replaced over the past 25-30 years with many of the woke clowns like Gen Milley. Now, it's time to get back to the purpose of the military, and it's NOT to be a test bed for every type of social experiment going on in the general society. The military is SUPPOSED to have standards that are DIFFERENT than society as a whole, which is why folks who are mentally or physically disabled do not qualify. Have a good day. 👍🇺🇲

This purpose that the military is getting back to - is it to wage fake wars on weaker countries so that you can steal their resources rather than paying for them like civilised people? Cos that's what's about to happen.

CNN and ABC are calling the democratically elected Venezuelan government "The Maduro Regime," so they are already behind it. Each day brings a new evil, a new reason to despise these people acting so hatefully in the name of the people they supposedly represent. As a student of history, I can definitively say that Trump and his cronies are as un-American as any enemy we have ever faced as a nation. The calls are coming from inside the house.

I'm not sure Trump and his cronies ARE so un-american...

America is, and has been for a very long time, a threat to world peace; using it's military might to force regime change, take whatever it wants from 3rd party nations, all while keeping it's own population functionally illiterate, and confined in an effective police state (where getting sick might financially ruin you), and then making the insane claim to be a land of freedom...

We've been racist and violent from the outset, propagating genocide against native populations, the Filipinos, the Japanese, the North Koreans, the Iraqis, South Americans, the Afghans... pretty much any non-white group. Routine systematic oppression of non-whites in America is reflected in poverty and incarceration rates of non-whites. America sells itself as a good guy, but the words have rung hollow from the time a noted slave-owning atheist wrote "we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal." Lofty ideas that have never materialized.

So maybe not so un-American. But they are inhuman. They have no restraint and no shame. The only redeeming thing about them is that they are so selfish and so incompetent it keeps them from being as truly horrible as they might. They are plenty horrible.

There should be international court proceedings against all these war of aggression propagandists. So that when they travel, they get arrested. The US gov said they will fight just if any of their leaders and military get accused and arrested like that.

Trump has a very easy fix to stop illegal drugs entering the United States of America. Just arrest Eric Trump's dealer and the problem will just melt away.

But we all know it's not about drugs it's about oil and regime change as Venezuela headed to merit to elect a left-wing leader.

Any member of the US military who takes part in an assault on Venezuela is as guilty of war crimes as is Donald Trump. It's not as though these days anyone isn't aware of the rampant, lawless criminality of the US government over many decades. The information about it is hard to avoid. We on the Left should stop giving soldiers a free pass to commit atrocities because they are in the military. The lesson of the Graham Platner debacle should be obvious: stop idolising military veterans and serving soldiers who are serving the oligarchy not the people. See 'Graham Platner and the Left’s Masculinity Crisis' on the Current Affairs site.

"it would be amusing if the USS Gerald R. Ford went up in flames"

In essence I am all for that but, "amusing"? One has to be mindful that there are 4500 sailors on that thing.

Why would I sympathise with fascists who are committing war crimes? It is clear as day that war would be totally illegal and "just following orders" is no excuse. There is no moral ambiguity here. Those sailors are already killing innocent people. I would far rather no one was hurt, but I will only sympathise with members of the military who refuse to fight.

In the west we get told it is bad for ' rogue regimes ' to have wmd, and it may be. Meanwhile the US and their lapdogs thrash around the world destroying countries and people's lives, the real rogue regimes. Millions have died as a direct result of the actions of the west since 1945.

Thanks for the article you absolutely nailed it. Trump and all his government should be tried for crimes against humanity. The Israeli government should also, and any western leaders who have gone along with the genocide.
