At an anti-genocide protest, a woman was arrested by the Metropolitan Police for holding up a sign reading: “I do not support the proscription of Palestine Action.”
Yes. And once you are designated as a terrorist against the UK state you need to read up on what they can legally do to you under Patel’s 2021 Covert Human Intelligence Sources (Criminal Conduct) Act. I read it years ago and remember that any designated UK agent can suspend your right to Habeus Corpus and they also have the right to rape children if deemed useful in catching criminals, amongst other human rights atrocities. For some reason this Act and its rolling back of UK human rights has remained under the UK international corporate owned mass media radar.
I condemn the genocide that led to Auschwitz, and I condemn the genocide that is occurring still in Gaza. How about that on a placard? Covers both sides to my mind! I could even say: I condemn the German Nazi Government's genocide in Auschwitz and I condemn the Israeli Government's genocide in Gaza. That covers both sides too. Equal, and not anti anyone? Except governments. And we vote for governments, don't we!
A great piece and so very true. Although I am a "state pensioner" who can't live on my pension alone, still work part time in education, need foreign travel and live in rented accommodation I also can't afford to be arrested and salute the more "seasoned and secure" pensioners who can. But arresting people for simply OPPOSING a ban on an organisation that has NEVER engaged in terrorism or even for opposing or mentioning genocide is Orwellian "thought crime." I say and do this all the time both on and off of demonstrations (mainly static ones because of my "bad Bosnian leg" from when I saw a genocide up close in 1995). It's also outrageous that the Home Secretary is imposing still more limits on the right to protest when fascist supporters of Farage and Robinson seem empowered to do precisely what they want. What we are seeing is criminalisation of dissent but only on the Left. Your final point about the government conflating the Jewish community with Zionism is priceless and was made by a member of the Revolutionary Communist Party (whose name I have forgotten) on radio recently. Aside from Benjamin Netanyahu and his murderous fascist state, and the holocaust they have inflicted as a final solution on Gaza, the biggest promoters of anti-Semitism in this country are a government that has churlishly conflated Jewishness with support for Israel. This was first to wage its McCarthyite purge of the Labour Party and university sector and then support the genocide that began NOT with the abductions but the annexation of East Jerusalem that precipitated it. We all condemn the attack on the synagogue in Manchester, on the same day that 100 Palestinians were murdered by the fascist terrorists of the IDF and an act of piracy on the open seas saw Greta Thunburg and others beaten, tortured and humiliated by the Zionist scum. However, does anyone really believe that a lone nutcase fired up by shit on the internet EVER went on a demonstration or mass protest where there were ALSO Jewish opponents of Zionism, or had the where-with-all to commit a minor act of vandalism against a PRIVATELY OWNED spy plane at Brize Norton airbase, recently involved in war crimes
It appears the world is catching on. Millions protesting their governments against corruption , wars, treatment of dissent. And more of the many things “ the people” will not tolerate.
And so now dissenters pay by the electeds saying we are terrorists.
That my friends is how scared they all are of the power of the people.
When a population has been propagandised into a state of gullibility and complete political illiteracy combined with hate and anger, you can do pretty much whatever you want to them and make sure someone else gets the blame. These people will gladly give up their rights for the sake of denying them to a scapegoat.
On Saturday someone held up a sign saying “I support genocide” and Al least three times asked to be arrested. The police refused because his sign wasn’t illegal and was presumably perfectly fine.
The Assistant Commissioner should get his literary output grammar checked before sending it out.
"Less officers" is a solecism, it's "fewer ". Officers is s countable noun as opposed to an uncountable one like crime that is measured. So fewer officers ,less crime.
I oppose the genocide in Palestine just like millions of other people - but that doesn't mean I hate the Jewish community or their beliefs.
Does that make me a terrorist?
Will I get arrested for re-posting…
I don't surport any terrorist
I only surport love and peace

I can’t imagine why…
So the British have lost whatever freedom of speech they had? Very sad. And very wrong!

Totally agree
✊ resist it.

Well, well, well.

What next, anonymous masked gunmen snatching brown people off the streets?
Ice is not nice.
The word terrorist has lost its meaning.

I think someone should go to one of these protests holding a blank sign, to see if they get arrested.
As they did during protests against the monarchy.

It's happening too quickly, just as it is in the US.

Just your usual talking up your own agenda in these comments, no explaining why pensioners are being thrown to the lions.
What a load of shit
President John F. Kennedy once said: "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable."
