That's fucking terrifying.... I work a set amount of hours for an agreed price
That's where the ownership of me ends. Yeah you get to tell me what to do for my job, but why do employers think they are entitled to anything more than that.
As an employer the last thing i want or need to do is read my employees’ minds. Trust is not meant to be broken by faith in technology. Just my 5 cents worth.
The narrative for justifying most kinds of controlling, invasive (and of course profitable) technology is always (or often) made through health / life extension arguments. It seems like an unquestionable 'holy grail' position that can be used to justify any old bollocks. Although this work-place spyware stuff is a bit different.
I thought it was some sort of horrible joke when I first glanced at your headline. There is no way anyone should be okay with this, if this is the future it looks like a hellish nightmare. I'm very glad to be over 70, but what an awful world for my grandchildren and greats!
At my current job employees are given a substantial discount on Fitbits, all because the company really cares about our health. If you read through all the fine print about the discount it reveals that this discount is possible because your metrics from the Fitbit will be available to the company.
Ahahaha! The same people who will accuse you of being narrow minded and overly dramatic are the ones who will meekly don the headsets, at work first and then at home.
I read this thinking of mainly office/WFH people but in a care home close to where I live, the carers are only paid for the time they interact with residents. They could be on a 12-hour shift but only be paid for the 6 hours they spent with people and not for the time needed to update records, flag concerns, talk to colleagues about planning the day’s work... I can see how this type of private healthcare could also adopt this technology to monitor employees and reward or punish them according to their current ideology - ie reward those who wash and dress the most residents (productivity) or those who spend longer doing that task with a person but shows more of a caring attitude. I fear the former would be the most likely.
As you said, Ricky (and I don’t swear lightly) what the actual fucking fuck? 🫣😬
Have a look at Paul Kingsnoth's Substack (The Abbey of Misrule) for his in-depth critique of 'The Machine'. You may already know it - common ground to this article. New to your posts, I liked this one thanks.
The question remains: how do we resist ... A neoLuddism of some kind?
Well shit, that’s just plain terrifying
It’s going to be go read their plans. stop the who dot the com
Your stuff scares the shit out of me. It makes me less angsty that I am 65 and not as long for this world, but scared for my 3 year old grandson.
Don’t be so sure that we won’t figure out a way to keep you going for another 75 years of production you pesky human!
I am going to run out of joints to replace, so maybe I will have a future as a robot bathroom monitor.
Same here, it is not good.
Orwell's 1984 come alive.

Enraging at best ....

Maybe the Luddites were right. Or they are now.

Sounds like to start of an excellent sci-fi paranormal movie but a comical one. Camera in bathroom? Forgot to wipe!
> Forgot to wipe!
It's not so much "forget to", but my employer charges per square of toilet paper and deducts it from my playcheck.
What if you don't know how to use the three sea shells?
Scary stuff

Unionise, protest, refuse to accept their bullshit. They will try to pretend the technology is here to help us to gain our consent. Don't fall for it.
